Benjamin Brockman was born in High Point, N.C. from a family of fourteen (nine sisters and four brothers). He completed Penn High School and received many awards of recognition while there. In 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Miss Margaret Smith and has one daughter and two granddaughters and a son in law. Ben is also an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in High Point where he served as past Secretary of the Board of Trustee’s for 34 years. On March 15, 1967, he joined the High Point Police Department. Upon completion of the Police Academy, he was assigned to Third Platoon in the Patrol Division. In September 1973, he was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. In 1975, he was promoted to the rank of Patrolman II. In September, 1980 he was promoted to the rank of Master Police Officer I. Ben was assigned in July 1984 to the Baker Team Operations Division. In September 1984 he was promoted to the rank of Master Police Officer II. In October 1984, he was assigned to the Residential Crime Squad for the remainder of his Police Career with the High Point Police Dept. He has received several commendations and awards including the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate. On December 31, 1989, Ben retired from the High Point Police Department after serving 23 years and 9 months and is currently employed with the U.S. Marshall Service in which he has served since 1998 as a Court Security Officer. In February 2001 he received a Certificate from the U.S. Marshall Service “Director’s Distinguished District Award”. Ben is a “Lifetime” member of North State Law Enforcement Officers Association Furniture City Chapter and served as Past Secretary for 15 years. |
